Flying in Columbia

Acrobatic yoga is practiced with more than one person at a time. Typically, one person acts as a base while another person "flies."

Group meets for acrobatic yoga classes at Yoga Sol on Monday evenings

Laurel Goodman started teaching acrobatic yoga to her local friends after she moved to Columbia in September, 2012. In late 2010, Goodman stayed at a yoga and meditation retreat center in Cambodia during a trip to Southeast Asia, where she became exposed to acrobatic yoga. After spending a week in an immersion course in Thailand, she decided to teach her friends the skillset of acrobatic yoga. She started the classes in her living room, but as her yoga class gained popularity, she had to move to a yoga studio to be able to teach more people.

Along with being a yoga instructor, Laurel Goodman volunteers with the Columbia Farmers Market to bring people closer to the producers of the food they consume. Her work in the farmers market reflects her preference of a plant-strong diet because she is close to the producers and often buys her vegetables and fruits from the market. She also grows her own vegetables in a community garden. Goodman said that for years she helped her mother weed her garden, and since then she has wanted to have her own. When she moved to Columbia in September, 2012, she has found the time to grow her own food.

Goodman also keeps up with a healthy lifestyle by eating a plant-strong diet, and she grows many of her vegetables in a community garden.
